Marcel Wanders launches Rijks, Masters of the Golden Age in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, April 8, 2016. Today, internationally renowned designer Marcel Wanders launches his latest project in collaboration with the Rijksmuseum – the unique art publication Rijks, Masters of the Golden Age, which pays homage to the 17th-Century Dutch masterpieces from theRijksmuseum’s prestigious Gallery of Honour. In this historic setting, Marcel Wanders handed over the first Limited Edition exemplar to museum director Wim Pijbes.

Three years in the making, the publication is born of Marcel Wanders’ profound appreciation for this outstanding cultural heritage and its timeless significance. "More than a space for historic education, I believe the Gallery of Honour exists to elevate the human spirit and serve as an invitation to search for the creativity within ourselves,” Marcel Wanders says.

On Dutch daily TV show De Wereld Draait Door, Marcel Wanders and Wim Pijbes discussed how this grand volume transports these paintings from a different age and vividly brings them to life. Watch the broadcast here.

Do you like your gold shiny?

Are you a metal head?

Do you believe broken porcelain brings luck?

Does glass always pass the light?

Sparkly like silver or shiny like gold

Do you recognise this face

This make me feel sooo happy

Do you remember antiques

Believe it or not you're a light-weight

Would you like to take a seat
